The United Nations has called on the Danish government to reconsider its decision on Syrian refugees in its territory, warning that it will have negative implications on international protection efforts.
The Danish government considered the return of Syrian refugees to Latakia and Tartous as ‘safe,’ four years after a similar decision regarding Damascus and its outskirts.
Amnesty International criticized the Danish and Hungarian decisions on canceling permits for Syrian refugees to stay and transferring them to return centers or leaving the country voluntarily.
The Danish Minister of Immigration, Mattias Tesfaye, previously stated that the temporary residence permits of Syrian refugees may be canceled if the need for temporary protection ceased.
