It is claimed that Saudi Arabia will establish diplomatic relations with Syria again after Iran. Following the agreement reached between Saudi Arabia and Iran to re-establish diplomatic relations after 7 years, it was claimed that they also agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations with Syria. According to the news based on three sources familiar with the subject, it was claimed that Syria and Saudi Arabia agreed to reopen their embassies after cutting their diplomatic relations in 2012. Sources stated that the contacts between Saudi Arabia and Syria gained momentum after the agreement to re-establish diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and that Syria and Saudi Arabia were preparing to reopen their embassies after the Ramadan Bayrami. The agreement was reported to have been made as a result of meetings with a senior Syrian intelligence official in Saudi Arabia. Sources stated that the senior Syrian intelligence officer stayed in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, for “days” and that the official in question was the head of the Syrian Intelligence Committee, Hussam Louqa. However, Saudi Arabia and Syria have not yet made any statements regarding the claims. After the civil war that broke out in 2011, Syria was excluded from the Arab League and many Gulf countries cut their diplomatic relations with Syria. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reopened its embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, in 2018.
